Legal Aid Society’s CLE celebrating Black History Month

Join Legal Aid Society and our Volunteer Eviction Defense Program for a 1 hour CLE in honor Black History Month.

Presented by Equal Justice Works Fellow, McKenley Butler, this virtual CLE will take an honest look at Louisville’s history of housing segregation and how it developed, draw clear connections to the modern eviction crisis and the racial disparities we see today, and explore the role attorneys can play - through pro bono representation - in fighting displacement and protecting families. The session will be framed through the values exemplified by Muhammad Ali: courage, justice, and service.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER EVICTION DEFENSE PROGRAM

Launching in the Fall of 2021, Legal Aid’s Volunteer Eviction Defense Program has served hundreds of Kentuckians facing eviction, helping them to avoid homelessness and provide stability for themselves and their families. Volunteer attorneys receive training, mentorship, and support to represent low-income clients in Jefferson County eviction court.
