What to Expect

Legal Aid Academy is a one-day volunteer training experience designed to equip attorneys, law students, and community advocates with the practical tools and knowledge needed to support low-income Kentuckians facing critical civil legal issues.

Through focused trainings led by Legal Aid staff and community partners, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the legal challenges affecting vulnerable families and individuals — and how volunteer advocates can make a meaningful impact.

Agenda

  • A morning coffee and networking

  • Practice-focused trainings in:

    • Domestic Violence Advocacy

    • Consumer Law Issues

    • Eviction & Housing Stability

  • One hour of ethics CLE focused on poverty law and access to justice

  • Lunch hosted by the Kentucky Bar Association Young Lawyers Division

  • Opportunities to connect with Legal Aid staff, pro bono volunteers, and fellow advocates

Incentives
