The 1921 Society is Legal Aid Society’s planned giving society, established to honor those supporters who are dedicated to ensuring that “justice for all” remains a reality for future Kentuckians. By making a gift to Legal Aid Society through a charitable bequest or other planned giving tool, you will sustain our mission of “pursuing justice for people in poverty” in perpetuity. Your Legal Aid legacy will transform lives and restore hope for generations to come.

A Gift in Your Will

A charitable bequest made as part of one’s will is often the simplest way to make a meaningful gift to your Legal Aid Society.  You may write a new will or simply add a codicil to your existing will.

Multiple options are available to include Legal Aid Society in your will:

  • A Special Bequest allows you to discern exactly what you want to leave to Legal Aid Society and is a great tool for leaving a specific dollar amount, asset, or piece of real estate.

  • A Residuary Bequest allows you to designate that Legal Aid Society receive all or a specific portion of the remainder of your estate once all specific bequests and obligations have been paid.

  • A Contingent Bequest allows a gift to Legal Aid Society to be fulfilled if certain conditions are met (e.g. in the event that your primary beneficiary does not survive you, you can select a contingent beneficiary.)

A charitable bequest to Legal Aid Society may offer tax savings through an unlimited estate tax charitable deduction, provided that your estate is large enough to require the filing of a state or federal estate tax return.

1921 Society Recognition

Donors who join our 1921 Society will be recognized annually in Legal Aid Society’s Annual Report.  Should donors wish to remain anonymous, Legal Aid Society will respect this request.  Additionally, 1921 Society members will receive an annual letter from our Executive Director and will be invited to attend an annual 1921 Society luncheon with several Legal Aid Society staff to stay informed on the issues facing our clients and learn about how their support is helping our mission!

Upon the execution of your bequest, Legal Aid Society will honor your legacy through the creation of a Board Resolution presented to the full board and signed by the Board Chair.  A copy of the resolution will be sent to your descendants to allow them to share in the celebration of your contributions to our mission.
