LOUISVILLE, KY (February 13, 2025) — Legal Aid Society announced today that Executive Director Jefferson Coulter will be stepping down from the role this Spring. Under his leadership, the organization has expanded its reach, strengthened its advocacy efforts, and provided critical legal services to thousands of individuals in need.

“It has been an honor to serve as Executive Director of Legal Aid Society,” said Coulter. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together in advancing justice and ensuring access to legal representation for our community’s most vulnerable populations.”

Since joining the organization in 2021, Coulter has overseen significant milestones, including doubling volunteer attorney hours, opening satellite offices in Shelbyville and West Louisville, and supporting significant increases in wages to support the employees who carry out Legal Aid Society’s mission.

Legal Aid Society’s Board of Directors will immediately begin a search for Coulter’s successor.

“Jefferson’s dedication and leadership have been instrumental in the growth and success of Legal Aid Society,” said Board Chair Jeremiah Byrne. “We are deeply grateful for his contributions and wish him the very best in his next endeavors.”

Coulter’s last day as Executive Director will be May 2. Legal Aid Society remains committed to providing high-quality legal services to those in need and will continue its critical work throughout the transition period.
