The Legal Aider - October 2021
LEGAL AID SOCIETY TO RECEIVE A MULTI-YEAR GRANT TO CREATE A VOLUNTEER EVICTION DEFENSE PROJECT
In August, Legal Aid Society was awarded a Legal Services Corporation Pro Bono Innovation Fund grant to launch the Volunteer Eviction Defense Project. This two-year grant will support staffing and operational expenses for the creation, launch, and management of the program through 2024. The program will address our community’s long-standing eviction crisis (worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic) by leveraging pro bono assistance to build capacity and meet the rising need for eviction defense. Morgan Ward, Member at Stites & Harbison and long-time Legal Aid Board Member, will serve as the project’s Chair, helping to recruit and train additional volunteers. Thank you to the following firms for committing early to this project: Stites & Harbison, Dinsmore & Shohl, and Wyatt, Tarrant, & Combs.
To volunteer, email Tracey Taylor at ttaylor@laslou.org.
VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
“Far too many Kentuckians can’t afford basic legal representation. Supporting Legal Aid through volunteering and donations is the best way to help bridge the gap for unrepresented Kentuckians.”

LOVE SHOULD NOT HURT
Survivors need your help!
Legal Aid Society’s Domestic Violence Advocacy Program is actively recruiting new volunteers to represent survivors of intimate or interpersonal violence with protective orders. Just a few moments of your time can literally save a life. Volunteers are provided with training, shadowing opportunities, and on-going support and this is a great opportunity for young attorneys to build courtroom skills and gain litigation experience.
